Some nifty trick to copy YouTube videos in your mobile phone without re-encoding. Read further I’ll guide you through ;-) .

  • Download the latest iteration of Google chrome browser (beta).
  • Open http://www.youtube.com/html5 & enable HTML5.
  • Download and install Google Chrome Frame.
  • Close and reopen Chrome. Open any YouTube video.
  • Check Html 5 loading screen as shown below (Edit: not all videos support HTML5).

  • Select video Quality as 360p.
  • Right-click on the video and select View page source.
  • In page source search for video/mp4 .
  • Copy the entire thing from http:// and paste in new window. This will download the video.

  • This video is compatible with your mobile phone. (All Smart phones support h.264 & aac, if  it doesnt it’s not a smart phone)
  • Copy it directly to your phone and check if it can be viewed :-) .

Re-encoding is one way of transferring videos, but you will loose the quality. This will save you from the hassle of encoding and is the best way if you are lazy like me.
